A leisure day was planned with a short ride of 35kms to Boppard a scenic historic village on the Rhine. The sunset out of our window last night was magical and the grassed area in front was used by horses for exercise, so lovely to watch at dusk.We followed a cruise ship along as we left this morning as it stopped in Koblenz so did we. Finally lost it as it went past Boppard at the end of our day, would this be a better option no at this stage our bikes are still winning over a river cruise!. Enjoyed Koblenz easy city to navigate, fountains and beautiful buildings everywhere plus our first sight of the Moselle river , planned for June should we ever complete the Rhine.
Cycling along as the Rhine gorge narowed was stunning hillsides covered with soft greens with fairytale castles perched on top. We had our morning stop in Koblenz, hubby succumbed to the tempting cakes they make and I had to stop him eating it all of course by himself! Finally picked up a cheap german mobile/handy as they call it, just got to figure out how to use it only 9cents a call or text a bargain. Will be useful if we want to try and book air bnbs.
We started to look for lunch spots turning off the Rhine path to cycle into historic tiny villages only to find the local Gasthauses were closed as Monday seemed to be a very popular restday, couldnt blame them as we’ d also scheduled in a semi rest day.Just as were contemplating tightening our belts we did come across a great spot for lunch perched up on a terrace, this felt like we’d made it ,we were really cycling the Rhine!
On to Boppard where we had booked a small apartment great to have a lounge and be able to comfortably spread out although no kitchen.
Time to run a bath…and finally read a book that roman ruin in the town might just have to wait……and a nice cup of tea is needed oh yes Ive just bought a tiny kettle ….who is carrying it I wonder?…
Ps For history buffs forgot to mention we saw the remains of tne famous Remagen bridge yesterday, apparently only bridge surviving the war in 1945 but then it was so weakened it did collapse with American soldiers crossing it.
Pss Never got to see the geyser at Andenach yestetday as it seemed like a mothers day thing to do so queues for boat were huge.
