Day 39-Back on the bikes off towards the “Source of the Rhine”-Switzerland

Our last day in lindau was spent on trips to see parts of the island we’d not seen and enjoying the general ambience of the island.Hubby was also enjoying the French news channel in English at our apartment which was  covering the English election and demise of Theresa May.

We woke to a glorious day after heavy rain all night and were waved off by the apartment owner although he couldnt understand why we were off to Switzerland, what was wrong with just cycling in Germany.?The rain all night meant everything was shimmering green and we were cycling through wafts of perfumed roses, jasmine and of course scented cow manure from all those doey eyed  Austrian/Swiss cows.

Hubby likes me to go in front of him whilst cycling and for good reason on the Bodensee. I clear a path for him through hordes of tiny midges. They stick to the sunscreen on my face  and onto my legs and the rest I inhale or swallow.By the time we get to a coffee spot my face is totally flecked black. Hubbys favourite past time over coffee is then removing them one by one and tallying up the total. He usually loses interest after 30.

We stopped to watch a mountain bike course set up for kids, some couldnt have been more than 5 years old haring around so fast. One of the spectators said they let visitors go round the course soon, we politely declined.

Plenty of rivers feeding into the Bodensee from the Austrian alps; the Brengenzer Ach was the really wide one we photographed.

We made sure we had coffee in Austria cheaper than Switzerland by far. I forgot at lunchtime just how expensive Switzerland is. One small bottle of sparking water cost 5 swiss francs about 8Aussie dollars and goodness knows how much of the sinking english pound.

Our 45km day to gently ease back into our cycling ended up as 55kms, ok we had a few problems with signs or lack of them and then when you did have a sign no indication of kms . The Swiss clearly dont need to encourage cycling tourists, they have enough money already.

Scenery just stunning as the day progressed cycling through a huge valley surrounded by mountains.Settled into a hotel with  views from our window of the mountains…….bliss …..dont think hubby is going to sleep he’ll be taking photos all night long..
