No room at the mediavel town of Tubingen….day 2 cycling the Neckar

We woke up in our underground cave/apartment after a good nights sleep with no noise, we’ll have to put our bedroom underground at home! Our hostess had said the supermarket opened at 6am, the bakers did but not the supermarket! Still we could wait till 8am.

We set off through forests and steep sided gorges at times we had sheer drops next to the path. It was very undulating till. lunchtime.Morning tea was at the historic town of Horb .Horb is Schwabisch for damp/ sumpy the residents try and build their houses up the valley sides to avoid the damp valley floor.

Off following the Neckar through lush meadows of clover and yarrow, so pretty. You almost felt like lying down in it but not sure what the tick situation is!!As we neared Rottenburg for lunch we started seeing loads of cyclists we were entering the popular area of the Neckar. We did see the couple we met yesterday briefly.

Rottenburg had the usual historic market square and 14th century fountain, pleasant lunch in the square.

After lunch quite a bit of on road cycling and the valley broadened out.It wad an uphill slog into Tubingen and then suddenly you were in amidst tiny streets and squares and cobbled stones.

We found the tourist bureau who were totally unhelpful other than telling us most of the hotels were full.one had a room for 200 euros no thank you. They had no wifi so couldnt check on line. They said they couldnt ring a bed and breakfast for us as they may have to ring 10 as most would be full. The tourist bureau was staffed by volunteer students; very strange as they didnt seem at all helpful. The student got the one staff member who then suggested a hotel out of town by the university. Tbey rang them up yes they had a room so off we peddled.

We got there and went to check in but they only had one single room! The manager suggested a hotel half a km away off we went again. This hotel was on a busy main road and had no rooms free at tbe back. We resigned ourselves to cycling on.

After about another km we did see a sign to 2 hotels; the 2nd looked really nice and they had a room.In fact a very nice room with a sofa balcony etc.Hubby suggested cycling back in to see the old town. Forget it im not going anywhere!

Enjoying my hotel room and if youre ever heading to Tubingen book ahead!!
