Day 5-the Vlatavou tributary of Elbe , Czech Republic

Yes we made it our first day of cycling.

Great breakfast at Pension Kapr .Sleep notso  great as hubby found the hobbit sized bed a little short it was still beautiful looking out at the river from our bed.

As we started out from Cesky Krumlov tne realisation dawned we were in a valley and the only way out was up, 3 kms later!Signeage was a little elusive however once you crossed the railway past the station it was easier to follow the number 7 trail.

A real mix of terrain from quiet contry lanes to potholed gravel tracks. Coffee stop was a disaster hubby was looking after the bikes so i went in and was given 2 paper cups. One was for my tea and one was for hubbys cappacino. I pressed the button for the cappacino and it only half filled the cup so i pressed hot water but it wouldnt stop! So one diluted cappaccino later..undrinkable according to hubby.

We lunched at Cesky Budweiser  very nice town square .We gave the Budweiser tour a miss cruelty to hubby now he can only have the non alcoholic beer. Still the” nealkoholo ” Budweiser is very nice and very cheap.

After lunch it was relatively easy going no more 1 in 8 hills ie 12 % thank goodness.Beautiful ride into our next historic town Hluboka nad Vlatavou. We went for a largish hotel as hubby wanted a largish room . Could have been a mistake large hotels mean noise..Still we do have a large room and a reasonable size fridge for the milk for the tea! Yes i am still carrying that kettle in my panniers.

We walked up to the castle, beautiful gardens. The castle was built in the 13th century but has been rendered so looks strangely immaculate. Tower was out of order due to inclement weather ie.it was pouring with rain.Tours and payment was by area of castle eg. A 50 min tour of the appartments was 150 kroner. You couldnt go anywhere on your own and as we dont speak czech we just wandered around the courtyard etc. It is one of the most visited castles in Czechia. It would be great for kids with archery etc on.

Great cafes in the town itself.ie. i had a proper tea pot and wasnt pointed to a machine….We confess to heading to a chinese for dinner to get some veggies . Im still recovering from my czech dinner the night before a spoonful of goulash and over half a plate of doughy stodgy bread. I must admit the bread did taste nice however.

Time for a chill.

We did find another cycling map herein Hlubokova  but once we bought it realised it was 8 years out of date and all the numbers are wrong.on the routes. Oh well lets hope we get to Tabor tomorrow….according to the free map from the tourist bureau its trail number 11 … but we are reaching the border of that map…
