This is going to be short and sweet. Its been a very long day. Somehow i imagined greenways following old railways NO its across country and up and down!!
A great breakfast at our Pension Starometsky in Tabor including Sunday morning bacon and eggs so we were off to a good start.Sad to leave such a lovely pension and could have done with another day to explore Tabor.
The first 14kms once out of Tabor were on beautiful country lanes with almost an english feel but minimal traffic. Then we were on a terrible dirt track , which fortunately did lead onto a track which had mostly bitumen left on it. One of the old world war 2 tracks so not in great repair but pleasant scenery through woodlands.
We emerged out of the woods near Borotin castel complete with moat. Houses in the village were very prettily painted. It was then uphill forone of many of the days hills and then short steep descents. At one point we thought why is it so hilly and then saw signs to ski resorts!! One one descent i was stung just under my nose ,agghh pain. As it wasnt spring neither of us had brought antihistamines. Very quickly my top lip was swelling up, who needs to pay for botox you can just get some bee stings.
I decided the cold air of cycling was the only cure so on we went. A coffee stop was called for at Sedlec Pricice and managed to drink my tea with difficulty, with my great fat lip.
We were concerned re our slow speed, the bad forest tracks, potholed roads and hills meant we were only averaging 14.2kms an hour. Today we’d planned on reaching Tynec nad Sazavou and had booked a hotel there being as it was Sunday.Plenty of apple trees by the side of the road with fruit just falling off them, i did try one , very sour..
We stopped for lunch at a pub figuring more energy was required. We hadnt done such a hilly ride with loaded panniers in years. As we went on we saw more cyclists with panniers for the first time, quite a few from the uk.Signeage was very good so no worries about getting lost. The route was marked as 11 aswell as the green way.
Some hills we cycled up for half an hour so about 4 kms uphill!!interesting watching the combine harvester who mulched into a truck as he harvested spent corn stalks.Villagers still in short supply.
As we neared Tynec great benches were everywhere carved out of wood.As we went through villages wed pass heaps of old cars just parked up together abandonned. Many farmhouses seem to build a new one but leave the old one rotting away next to their lovely new farmhouse.Strange to us ordered Aussies.
At last our weary bodies arrived at Tynec after 76kms .Hotel Tynec is very historic, even Archduke Ferdinand of Austria stayed here. Its not up to its previous lush splendour alas but comfy enough. Another historic town but being Sunday not a lot open.
Time for bed, hopefully we are up to getting on the bikes for the last section of the greenway into Prague.!!
