We left our concrete stark hotel early but the breakfast was served in the banqueting hall of one of the old regimental buildings nearby and was very nice so we wont complain too much about the hotel itself.Tim was determined that we wouldnt miss our ferry to the Island of Aero , we certainly got there with plenty of time to spare and Tim is learning that there just aren’t coffee shops around every corner in Denmark. We wandered around the marina and little town of Flyhavn. The ferry was 100% electric and was off before we had even parked our bikes, not many cars on board. The other bikes on board were all electric, yes the island of aero has hills and not the nice long slow ones we went up to get to the ferry, short, sharp ones..Getting on the ferry was very smooth and old fashioned they just ticked your names off, no trying to find your tickets on your phone. Coffee and tea on the ferry and we were all set for the island of Aero. We saw our first danish pigs on a truck getting on our ferry but have yet to see them on farms.
Aero was very pleasant cycling along country lanes, the odd bit of gravel past picturesque villages of thatched houses. Farm produce was set up for sale temptingly at farm gates but I wasnot making my load any heavier. We reached the main village of Aeroskobing around 12ish so quaint the brightly painted houses and craft shops. It was all quite deserted maybe everyone shuts for lunch but produce was still left on shop steps with a money tin. We settled for chocolate biscuits, we had already had our rolls for lunch at 1130 after such an early start. We were debating to jojn the queue for the local smoked fish hut when we noticed a ferry coming in. We checked and we were allowed to jump on an earlier ferry which was great as we got to our bed and breakfast in Svenborg by 330pm. More hills to our bed and breakfast, but an attractive garden and we were only sharing a shower .Our room did have a toilet and washbasin attached, phew .. accommodation seems hard to come by even though its not high season anymore.
We met the other 2 staying at breakfast they were attending a film festival in Svendborg, one was a paid film critic. The gentleman of course was also a motorcyclist so Tim and him got off to a good start. We learnt again dont say you can speak German, germans are not liked in this region of Denmark.

A leisurely very good breakfast at the bed and breakfast chatting to the 2 other guests, before we set off north towards Faaborg still on the island of Fyn .It was so calming just peddling through quiet countryside, so beautiful and a gentle wind. The local animals seem to take a fancy to Tim every time he stops to look at them they come rushing over. No problem with toilet spots here in Denmark wherever there is a bench to stop at there is also a toilet, some are long drops some with flushing toilets and washbasins!A foraging display showed all the produce we could forage for in the local forests although i did think the red toadstools with white spots were a no,no..
I was tempted by local honey for sale but they could have thought of cyclists and put some little pots up for sale, not great big pots.We passed Holstenhuus castle enroute, more of a 1750s manor house but still quite attractive, only the gardens are open to the public occasionally. There was no coffee till we got into Faaborg but worth waiting for it was proper coffee for Tim and for me a proper pot of rooiboos tea, this great coffee shop was attached to the local arthouse movie theatre.Faaborg has a real charm beautiful market square and elegant coloured houses. We asked for help re accommodation in the tourist bureau and when I offered again to speak german was told don’t do that here we don’t like germans , thats twice in one day i’ll stick to english and no she couldnt help with accommodation, museums yes! Tim has stopped wearing his new german Flensburg cap we have been warned.
Off to the only hotel we could find 2kms from Faaborg a conference hotel on the beach so possibly no quiet night tonight! Still no acommodation for Sat night…and tomorrow its a mere 9km detour to get a bed for the night..should have brought a sleeping bag lots of free shelters in the forest like the Bib track in WA.

You are going through such beautiful countryside guys. I’m not sure when you find the time to write up your blog Veronica, great photos to match your story. I feel like I am experiencing your trip through your blog. Cycle safe and stay well. Karen & Fred

Good the animals join in. From a tv show I saw, there has berm a fuss about treatment of pigs there. Poor animals. It happens here too. We humans have a lot to answer for. Very pretty place and good weather you are having.
